Fourier transform infrared attenuated total reflectance spectroscopy
(FTIR-ATR) was performed by Yaroslav Kosobrodov during his Year 10 work
experience in
Applied Plasma and Physics Lab, School of Physics, University of Sydney. The spectra were processed
with the help of Dr. Elena Kosobrodova who has created this website to
assist honor and PhD students with interpretation of FTIR-ATR spectra of
polymers. All images of polymer chemical structures except for PU and
PES were taken from Wikipedia.
All polymers ecxept for PCL and PU were obtained from GoodFellow
(Cambridge, UK). PCL was ordered from Sigma-Aldrich (Australia). PU was
provided by Smith & Nephew (Australia). FTIR-ATR spectra were measured
using a Digilab FTS7000 spectrometer fitted with a multiple bounce ATR
accessory (Harrick, USA) with a trapezium germanium crystal at an
incidence angle of 45°. To obtain sufficient signal/noise ratio, 500
scans were taken at a resolution of 4 cm-1.
